Estero Bay Preserve Park

first aquatic preserve in Florida, protects the water, inlets, and islands along 10 miles of Estero Bay.

Residents in this 10,000 acre park are bald eagles, gophers, tortoises, fiddler crabs, crocodile, manatee, least tern, black bear, slash pines, pawpaw, cedar,and live oaks.

The 600 acres of flatwoods, salt flats and tidal marsh called Winkler Point is the main entrance to the park.

Estero Bay Park 

visitors will find scrub, flatwoods, hammock, strand swamp, mud flats, salt marsh and tidal swamp.

Estero Bay is gateway to a chain of barrier islands, north to south, Estero Island, Long Key, Lovers Key, Black Island, Big Hickory Island, and Little Hickory Island.

 

 

Lovers Key State Park was for years, only accessible by boat and lovers traveled to the secluded island. Today, the park of four barrier islands (Black Island, Inner Key, Long Key, and Lovers Key) is reachable by auto.

The park is home to manatees, dolphins, roseate spoonbills, marsh rabbits, and woodpeckers, hawks, bald eagles, owls.

Boaters can launch their vessels from the park's boat ramp and the park offers boat and fishing tours, as well as bicycle, canoe, and kayak rentals

Two mile beach is accessible by boardwalk &  tram and is great for shelling, swimming, picnicks  and sunbathing. There are five mi of trails for  hiking and bicycling.

Dolphin body that tapers with beaks and dorsal fins with long pectoral fins.  They are mostly grey with a white stomach.They may have pink stomachs and the coloring can be blue.

When you live in Southwest Florida you can see groups of dolphins swimming in the very salty waters of the Gulf.

 

Florida Manatee, related to the elephant, is called a gentle giant. They are herbivorous feasting daily on large amounts of vegetation.Thay are about 10 feet long and 1,000 pounds and adults eat 8 hours a day.They are grayish brown with thick wrinkled skin. Their bodies resemble a seal and they have whiskers looking  like a walrus. They have huge lungs and can hold their breath for 15 minutes.
